We rocked the Leadville 100.
In the ultimate test of endurance we showed that a wood bike was up to the challenge of surviving one of the hardest mountain bike races in the world. The Leadville 100 starts in the mountains of Colorado at over 10,000 feet. Thousands of riders compete each year to see if they are up to the challenge. Our rider Robert Brudenell rode the latest model, the DURT (Denver Urban Reclaimed Tree) Bike as a fundraiser for ALS. He completed the race without any technical difficulties and showed that wood was strong enough for this test. As we believe this was a world’s first for a wood bike at this level of competition.
Robert competed the race running 100 miles on dirt, climbing almost 12,000 vertical feet and hitting a top speed of 45 miles per hour on one descent. His finish time as 10:14. This is viewed as a huge success for Connor Wood Bicycles and we feel it answers the question of whether these bike can actually be ridden.
